Common questions

What to know before using the product

Find answers to common questions about the product to help you decide whether it fits your needs.

01What is TelefonX, and do I need my own SIP account?

TelefonX is a standalone macOS app for SIP calls. You need a compatible SIP account or access to a local or hosted phone system. TelefonX is not tied to a particular provider. Test your specific setup before relying on it for everyday use. TelefonX is not an emergency-calling service.

02Where can I find guides for setting up and using TelefonX?

The TelefonX documentation contains setup guides and explanations of the individual features. Open the documentation

03Which Macs are supported?

TelefonX supports MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro models with Apple silicon that run macOS 26 or later. Intel-based Macs are not supported.

04Which keys can I use during a call?

Press M to mute or unmute your microphone. Press H to place the call on hold or resume it. When the keypad is open, 0–9, * and # send DTMF tones. While a call is on hold, the other party hears your custom hold music if you configured it with Pro. Otherwise, TelefonX uses standard SIP hold, and any tone or music depends on your provider or phone system.

05Which data stays local, and are calls recorded?

TelefonX stores its own contacts, call history, settings and callback reminders locally. SIP passwords are kept in macOS Keychain. The app does not record calls. Necessary connection and audio data is sent to your SIP provider or the other party. Optional business lookup sends unknown public numbers to Apple Maps. For more information, see the TelefonX privacy policy. Open the privacy policy

06What is the difference between Free and Pro?

The free version includes one active SIP line, core calling features, local and Apple Contacts, favorites, call history and blocking. Pro adds more lines, callback reminders, dialling rules, contact CSV tools, custom ringtones and hold music, and business lookup. Monthly and annual subscriptions provide the same Pro features.

07Can I use my existing Apple Contacts?

Yes. With your permission, TelefonX displays Apple Contacts as a read-only source and does not modify them. To edit an entry in TelefonX, you can copy it into an independent local contact.

08How do I get support?

Pro gives you direct support through chat. With the free version, help is available through the documentation and by email. [email protected]
